A couple of hours ago, we brought you a report on some leaked hands-on images and specs of an upcoming Huawei device which was at that time believed to be either the Huawei Nova 3 or Nova 2s. Today, the company has tactically confirmed our doubt by sending out media invites for an event on Dec 7, where it would launch the Huawei Nova 2S.

The Press invite doesn’t much, but it does expressly hint that the Nova 2S will be launched on Dec 7. The Huawei Nova 2S will bring the full-screen design, a flagship Kirin 960 chip and a few other improvements to the Huawei Nova series
In case you missed the earlier leaked specs and hands-on images, the Huawei Nova 2S is expected to pack a 6.0-inch display with the resolution of 2160x1080p fitting in the current 18:9 standards, while it will be powered by the Kirin 960 processor with a 6GB RAM. Much like the Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus, the Nova 2S will feature a dual camera setup; a 20MP+16MP rear unit, as well as a dual front camera setup.
The device will boot EMUI 8.0 UI based on Android Oreo out of the box with support for facial recognition, NFC for contactless payment as well as a built-in Hi-Fi chip. The device will arrive on Dec 7 in Black, Gold, Silver and Blue color options.

Today, the BBK owned giant Oppo has made a quietly unveiling of a 6GB variant for their newest flagship the Oppo R11S. The newest variant come to agitate even more the Chinese competition with so many recent launches.
The newest OPPO R11S 6GB RAM variant comes with a higher price than the standard version, with a 3,599 Yuan price tag which converts in about $545. It’s exactly $90 more expensive than the regular version, which is being sold at $454. There is a small catch though, users aiming to grab this new variant will only have the Champagne Gold option.

The Oppo R11S was originally launched in the end of October sporting a 6.01-inch display with 2160x1080p resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio sitting at the FullScreen segment. Beneath the panel horsepower is ensured by the powerful Snapdragon 660.
Previously the handset was offered only in a 4GB RAM and 64GB variant, now with this newest launch, the company is offering a higher variant with the advertised 6GB RAM and 128GB combo.
Camera wise, the Oppo R11S packs a dual camera setup on the rear that resembles the recent launched OnePlus 5T, featuring the same 20MP + 16MP sensors both with f/1.7 aperture. The front facing snapper take pictures at 20MP and has some neat AI features to improve the photography quality.
Oppo R11S is runs Android 7.1.2 in the form of ColorOS 3.2 and all the lights are kept by a large 3,205mAh battery. Owners interested on this new variant can grab it through Oppo online store.

Tecno Phantom A3 is a slight upgrade to the Phantom A2. It comes with a 6-inch display and a more powerful processor, but with the same battery capacity which could result in a lower battery life compared to the Phantom A2. Tecno Phantom A3 runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) with 1GB RAM.
Tecno Phantom A3

The Hardware & Software

Looking at the specs the Tecno Phantom A3 seems like a needless upgrade to the Phantom A2. The phone may boast of a processor upgrade from 1.2GHz quad-core to 1.5GHz quad-core processor, but by retaining Android 4.2 (instead of at least Android 4.3 or even Android 4.4), we struggle to see the competitive edge of the Phantom A3.

Except you fancy the large 6.0-inch display, there are very little reason to favour the Phantom A3 over the Phantom A2. The included gyroscope may also give it some edge in gaming. It ships with 1GB RAM and 16GB built-in storage. Read More

Samsung is a well-known due to be constantly trying on new technologies and concepts for their smartphones. Consequently is very natural to see some crazy patents filings coming from the South Korean manufacturer.
There are dozens of projects that failed or succeeded in the manufacturer’s history, and we could have a glimpse of them always that the company filed a document stating it as their proprietary technology.
The latest patent filing was found at the WIPO (World International Property Office) and reveals a rather unusual phone with a totally curved display. Just looking to the documents says pretty much that we’re not going to see such smartphone in the near future, but it’s cool to see Samsung move in keeping their wish for innovation in the segment.

The smartphone showed by the patent filing features a 180º curved display, that is able to curve the front all way around to the backside. According to the company the new panel is able to bring “a completely revamped user’s experience”, as well as “improved grip.”
Looking to the current standards, competition and what users are demanding we don’t see much light in what Samsung is planning to do with such new technology, but considering their previous experience and success, we’re pretty sure they have something in mind. If you recall some years ago a smartphone with an edged display would look totally crazy, but then the Giant reveled the Note Edge that got goods result and later was refined in S6 Edge. So whatever Samsung plans, we’re confident that the company will adjust it according to consumers desire.

The Huawei Ascend P7 is a flagship Android phone. It is designed to be an alternative to mobiles like the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8 - that’s some serious competition.
An eye-catching design goes some way to justifying such a position. However, it isn’t as quick or swish as the best phones out there and lacks a standout feature to make up for this.

Since the arrive of “smart watches” in the wearable market, we’ve seen them grow into two different segments: fashion and fitness. Now, Cubot tries to get both worlds with one device – the Cubot F1 smartwatch. Let’s see what makes the F1 different from most wearables already on the market!

#1

The Cubot F1 uses an high-quality 1.2-inch LCD screen covered with mineral crystal glass which ensures a clear view of the screen even under direct sunlight. As you probably well know most other smartwatches are only easy to view indoor because of their poor screens and glass coating. Needless to say the F1 will be very visibile at night as well, when you light up the screen.

#2

The speed and accuracy of heart rate monitors on conventional chips are lower than what you’d get on the Cubot F1. The smartwatch is indeed equipped with a professional chip that can achieve real-time heart rate measurements with high accuracy. There are also five color indicators to show different heart rate status.

#3

The Cubot F1 comes with a built-in memory chip which allows you to store 10 messages in the watch. You can also view the full-text message or incoming calls.

#4

Customized experience: studies show that if you want to achieve the perfect health results and fat reduction, you should get around 40 minutes of exercise per day, longer than that would not actually help you. That’s why the Cubot F1 features a time setting: it will remind you when the time is up, so you don’t have to bring your phone with you.

In addition to the aforementioned features, the built-in six-axis sensor allows the F1 to accurately recognize the motion status and record the motion data without a phone. Meanwhile the 240mAh battery capacity will grant 2 to 3 days of battery life, even for heavy users.
Overall the Cubot F1 is definitely an interesting device for those seeking for a simple looking but yet feature packed smartwatch. You can one delivered to you by purchasing it at Nairobi Smartphones e-shop.

Qualcomm’s new bet for agitating the mobile chipsets segment on the next year will be the Snapdragon 845. We expect the full details of the chipset to be revealed before the end of 2017, however some details appeared online telling us pretty much what to expect.
According to the source, Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 will keep focusing in what is doing good. While other chipset makers are starting their 7nm solutions, Qualcomm’s new flagship SoC will use the same 10nm from its predecessor. However with some differentiations i.e. Snapdragon 845 use LPÈ while the recent released Samsung Chipset, Exynos 9810, uses LPP.

In what concern to the brute force, the Snapdragon 845 will be an octa-core divided in four Cortex-A75 and another four Cortex-A53 cores. Graphics have become even more demanding with the advent of higher resolution full screen display and Qualcomm is getting this covered by Adreno 630.
Another 2017 trend was the use of multiple cameras setup, with some handsets even bringing four cameras in total. So Qualcomm is preparing the chipset for supporting dual 25MP front cameras and dual 25MP rear units. In what concerns connectivity the Snapdragon 845 counts with X20 modem, support for 802.11 and Wi-Fi with a download speed of 1.2Gbps.
Telling about availability, we may see the Snapdragon 845 debut in the Samsung S9 and S9+ early in 2018, followed by either LG G7 and Xiaomi Mi 7. Are you excited for the next generation of Qualcomm’s flagship SoC?

A couple of weeks ago, a gaming company, Razer, released its first smartphone – Razer Phone, and being released by a gaming company, everyone expected this smartphone to be a gaming phone. We all know two major effects of gaming on a device – it swallows up your battery and it heats up your device. From the specs of the Razer Phone, it comes with a 4000 mAh battery which takes care of all battery needs. Now, a recent teardown by JerryRigEverything shows that this smartphone comes with a super huge heat pipe which is probably the largest in any smartphone in recent times.

The video gives a complete teardown of the Razer Phone which is quite easy compared to OP5T. There are no visible screws on the Razer Phone because its screws (a combination of Philips and T5 screws) are hidden beneath two plastic grills. The bottom plastic grill exposes a few screws while the top plastic grill which covers some more screws comes out with the camera lenses. Rather than adhesives, Razer Phone is held down using clasps and friction thus dismantling this smartphone after all screws have been removed is a piece of cake so long as you have a pry tool. Just behind the screen is a massive heat pipe which is overlaid by thermal paste on top of the copper for efficient heat dissipation. Another interesting aspect of the interior of this smartphone is the vibrator which is smaller than usual thus it could go unnoticed when the phone is set to vibrate only. This vibrator, as well as the charging port, is located at the bottom of the Razer Phone but there is no waterproofing so you have to be careful with the charging interface.

Finally, coupling back the Razer Phone is as seamless as tearing it down but make no mistake about this, you need to be extremely careful so you don’t destroy the screen or any other component. Note that the plastic grills covering the front screws do not stick back easily when they have been removed.
See some images of the Razer Phone teardown below
