A couple of weeks ago, a gaming company,
Razer, released its first smartphone – Razer Phone, and being released
by a gaming company, everyone expected this smartphone to be a gaming
phone. We all know two major effects of gaming on a device – it swallows
up your battery and it heats up your device. From the specs of the
Razer Phone, it comes with a 4000 mAh battery which takes care of all
battery needs. Now, a recent teardown by JerryRigEverything shows that
this smartphone comes with a super huge heat pipe which is probably the
largest in any smartphone in recent times.
The video gives a complete teardown of
the Razer Phone which is quite easy compared to OP5T. There are no
visible screws on the Razer Phone because its screws (a combination of
Philips and T5 screws) are hidden beneath two plastic grills. The bottom
plastic grill exposes a few screws while the top plastic grill which
covers some more screws comes out with the camera lenses. Rather than
adhesives, Razer Phone is held down using clasps and friction thus
dismantling this smartphone after all screws have been removed is a
piece of cake so long as you have a pry tool. Just behind the screen is a
massive heat pipe which is overlaid by thermal paste on top of the
copper for efficient heat dissipation. Another interesting aspect of the
interior of this smartphone is the vibrator which is smaller than usual
thus it could go unnoticed when the phone is set to vibrate only. This
vibrator, as well as the charging port, is located at the bottom of the
Razer Phone but there is no waterproofing so you have to be careful with
the charging interface.
Finally, coupling back the Razer Phone
is as seamless as tearing it down but make no mistake about this, you
need to be extremely careful so you don’t destroy the screen or any
other component. Note that the plastic grills covering the front screws
do not stick back easily when they have been removed.
